SSRIs and their positive contribution to the production of new brain cells.

It has been empirically proven through observational studies that certain antidepressants may have an extremely positive benefit on serotonergic activity in the human brain, thus encouraging the proliferation of neurogenesis in the hippocampus region of the brain to compensate for the abundance of the neurotransmitter, serotonin (http://www.nature.com/mp/journal/v16/n7/full/mp201126a.html).

Serotonergics are classified as medicines or substances that may contribute to preventing the reuptake (the reabsorbtion) of serotonin, which invariably allows more serotonin to stay in the brain for a prolonged period of time, which sufficiently, may promote positive feelings of well being and happiness that could have a positive impact on cognition.
